Road Trip

Sharkey and I will be heading midwest in two days. We are off to Minnesota for a little R&R. We'll visit family, I'll play some golf, and we'll walk around the Minnesota State Fair!!! Now you may say, what's so freakin' great about a fair JP? Seen one fair, you've seen them all!! Well let me tell you something brother, you ain't never seen anything like this!

The state fair is the fair to end all fairs. Yes you do have the typical fair food, where everything is on a stick and mostly deep fried. It's the midwest after all, you know they like their meat and potatoes! There are a few things that you can really only get there too:

1. Batter fried cheese curds

2. Sweet Martha's Chocolate Chip Cookies

3. Deep fried candy bars

4. Tejas Chorizo Sausage breakfast burritos

5. Famous Dave's Ribs (well you can get them in Phily now too, but it's just not the same as MN)

The above 5 items describe the majority of my day. We wander around, we eat. We walk through the exhibit halls, we eat. We go in and out of the vendor buildings, we eat some more. We listen to the live radio show, and we eat some more. Additionally, the above 5 items force me to load up on the Lescol ahead of time and Sharkey will be carrying our portable defibrillator with us, ....er um...., just in case... As you know or do not know, I love food. I mean I really, really love food. It's amazing that I do not weigh 500lbs. with the amount of food I can consume. But the fair isn't just food and it's not a small, quaint fair that you may picture when you think of fairs. It's pretty cool! They have everything Minnesota there. The Twins have a booth, the different local TV, radio and newspapers setup there. The setup is pretty interesting. There's major corporate sponsorship like 3M, Coca Cola, and Toyota. And you cannot believe how many people go. I never really "got it" until I went to my first one, then after that when August approaches every year I ask Sharkey, "So when are we going to the MN State Fair?"

I hope you guys have fun. This *TOTALLY* sounds like the type of fair I'd like to go to. I do not like the podunk, nasty fairs at all.

I know I didn't get much sleep last night and my eyes are wonky, but when I saw these items:

Beef
Beer
Beer Batter Brat

I read the last one as Beer Batter FART instead of Brat. Something about the "F" in Beef, I'm guessing along with my lazy right eye (kidding, I don't really have a lazy right eye)

Oooh, have a "California Hamburger" for me (since I can't anymore). What makes it a "California Hamburger", I wonder?!?!?

Please tell me that "Ears (Elephant)" is just a "cute" name for something else?!?!?

A "Gizmo Sandwich" isnt' made out of Gremlin meat is it?

Ok, this one made my stomach lurch: Jackelope Meat Snacks

ICK!!

And what the heck is "Porketta"?

And last but not least, how do they put Spaghetti and Meatballs on-a-stick

Very, very intersting.

I bet Maggie is excited to go too!! :-)

We can't wait till you get here! The kids are counting down the hours!

Another great thing the State Fair has this year is Rascal Flatts! That's where I'll be on Friday night!

That is a pretty scary list of crap to eat. I usually just go for the more normal things--mini donuts, ice cream, cheesecake. No alligator for me, thank you very much. Actually, I think I did try it once.

Drive safe, and I'll see you all on Saturday!

I recently published an article on AEDs – here is a quote from it, in case you are interested:

Statistics give us more and more pieces of information that are bound to worry us, to make us react and change something if we can. More and more people and in earlier and earlier stages of their life die of a heart disease. Statistics, only in the US, are extremely alarming:
- Every 30 seconds someone dies because of a heart disease;
- More than 2.500 Americans die daily because of heart diseases;
- Every 20 seconds there is a person dying from a heart attack;
- Each year 6 million people are hospitalized because of a heart disease;
- The number 1 killer is a heart disease.
Although AEDs are not a universal panacea for all heart diseases, nothing else can compete to its major feature, that of actually re-starting the heart after it has been stopped by a sudden cardiac arrest. Under these circumstances is it necessary to ask you why anyone in this world, any family, in any home would hope for having such a device in their first aid locker?

If you feel this helps, please drop by my website for additional information, such as Public Access Defibrillation PAD or additional resources on AED manufacturers such as Philips defibrillators, Zoll AEDs or Cardiac Science AEDs.

Regards,

Michael
